What is figurative narrative painting? Wikipedia says “Narrative art is art that tells a story, either as a moment in an ongoing story or as a sequence of events unfolding over time”. Figurative simply means the art is predominantly about a person or people.
If you’ve read the Who is the Artling page you will know I’ve put off painting my ‘real work’ for a long time. That real work is, I know, figurative narrative painting. Now that I’ve committed to creating my real work, I’ve taken up sketching people and places in and around where I live. I will use the sketches I make as inspiration for my paintings. To start with I’m building my collection of sketches. The Artling will house my sketches and sketchbooks. It will also show the paintings developed from them and the processes used.
The Artling will also be a resource centre for people wanting to sketch figures themselves and for those wanting to try figurative narrative painting. For creatives too, who like me, have put off their real work, there will be inspiration and motivation. And for people who just love to look at art, there will be resources on viewing art, buying art and caring for it.
